So funny—the cashier at the grocery store just asked me where I’m from. When I said South Carolina, he told me I had a nice accent, as if a southern accent were quite unusual in Charlotte. I suppose it is rather unusual these days——how’s that for the New South?
I would’ve guessed his accent was from New York, but he claimed to be from Boca Raton.
Well, at least someone thinks I have a southern accent. I always take it as a compliment. At the NCTE panel in New York an audience member asked why none of us sounded Southern. I guess it all depends on your point of view.
